Liszt Academy still in high position on world university ranking

The latest edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, one of the world's most widely recognized university ranking systems, evaluates more than 1,900 universities across 55 academic disciplines within five broad subject areas.

With its 17th-place ranking in Music, the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music (whose QS profile can be viewed on the QS website) outperformed several renowned institutions, including the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the Norwegian Academy of Music, the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, and the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. As a result, it secured an outstanding 5th place among institutions in the European Union, thereby maintaining the position it achieved last year. Notably, although QS reviews more than 1,000 universities in this field, only 50 music higher education institutions are included in the global ranking.

Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Gábor Farkas, Rector of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, stated that the institution's prominent position in the global rankings validates the efforts made to enhance the visibility of its international partnerships and research activities. He added that the institution’s reputation and international recognition are further strengthened by its world-renowned faculty members and researchers through their masterclasses, performances, and participation in professional conferences worldwide. The Academy’s students also contribute significantly through their success in international competitions and their engagement in international artistic and academic activities.

Taken together, these achievements confirm that the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest continues to hold a leading position internationally and stands out among Hungarian universities: no other institution in the country has achieved a comparably strong result within its own field in this latest QS subject rankings.
