Gergely Kovács (piano)
Gergely Kovács began his journey with the piano at the age of four. By twelve, his exceptional promise earned him a place in the Liszt Academy’s Special School for Exceptional Young Talents, where he studied under Gyöngyi Keveházi and Gábor Eckhardt. Since 2010, his career has been marked by a string of international accolades, including top prizes at the Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition in Serbia and the Pietro Argento International Piano Competition in Italy. His performances have taken him far beyond Europe, with concert tours spanning Indonesia, China, and Singapore. In 2016, he performed a tribute to Zoltán Kocsis at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, followed by his prestigious solo debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 2019. He featured in the Liszt Academy’s New Year’s concerts in 2019 and 2020, the latter a performance with the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra that became a staple of the M5 cultural channel’s programming. In 2020, his artistry was further recognised with the Cziffra Festival Talent Award. Currently a doctoral candidate at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, this evening’s programme of Chopin and Rachmaninov serves as the definitive finale to his doctoral studies.
