Dedicated and exceptionally gifted young artists invite you to a Sunday afternoon performance in the Solti Hall, a seamless hour of music performed without interval. This opening concert of the Fantasia series features sonatas that, while firmly classical, were each groundbreaking in their own right.
In the Paris of the 1760s and 1770s, the “keyboard sonata with violin accompaniment” was the height of musical fashion. Mozart’s earliest published works adhered to this trend, but by the time he composed his two-movement sonata in the spring of 1778, he had begun to shift the balance. In this piece, he sought to elevate the violin to an equal partner, creating a genuine dialogue between the two instruments.
Beethoven carried this evolution even further. Although the composer himself did not coin the nickname “Spring” for his Sonata in F major, the title perfectly captures the work’s vibrant, blossoming energy. The programme concludes with the Sonata in G major, offering a lyrical and intimate musical conversation that showcases the profound rapport between these two rising stars.
