Alexander Kashpurin Piano Recital

Winner of the 2026 International Liszt Competition, Utrecht

Liszt: Transcendental Études

Alekszandr Kaspurin (piano)

Of the many piano competitions bearing the name of Ferenc Liszt, perhaps one of the most significant is the International Liszt Competition, held every three years in Utrecht. This competition is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, just as the Liszt Museum in Budapest – which is hosting the concert. The winner of the 14th competition, held in 2026, is Alexander Kashpurin, who was born in St. Petersburg and still lives there. The 30-year-old pianist, who also works as a conductor, has set himself no less a goal than to perform, in one sitting, perhaps Ferenc Liszt’s most difficult cycle: the twelve Transcendental Études. The series rightly earned the admiration of Berlioz, who called it a “new school of piano playing,” as Liszt succeeded in capturing the impact and possibilities of an entire orchestra on his own instrument – which continues to captivate audiences to this day. This special concert is part of the Liszt Museum’s Liszt Birthday Festival event series.
