Liszt Academy Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Gábor Takács-Nagy
The Liszt Academy Symphony Orchestra opens its programme by revealing two contrasting faces of the university’s founding namesake, Ferenc Liszt. The evening begins in a spirit of reverent devotion with the string orchestra arrangement of Angelus! Prière aux anges gardiens (Prayer to the Guardian Angels), before shifting dramatically into the demonic virtuosity of the Totentanz (Dance of Death). The solo role in this piano concerto will be performed by Gábor Farkas, who, in addition to being an acclaimed concert pianist, serves as the President of the Liszt Academy.
The second half of the concert is defined by rhythmic vitality and a sheer joy for life. It features Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a work famously described by Richard Wagner, Liszt’s contemporary and son-in-law, as the “apotheosis of the dance”.
Leading the orchestra is a familiar and cherished guest: Gábor Takács-Nagy. Having maintained a close bond with the ensemble for several years, his presence never fails to provide an extraordinary sense of inspiration.
