Ferenc Snétberger Solo Recital
In the Footsteps of Bach
Ferenc Snétberger (guitar)
Some musical dialogues span decades: the relationship between Ferenc Snétberger and Johann Sebastian Bach is exactly that. It is not a case of respectful distance, but rather a collaborative improvisation that transcends time and genre. For Snétberger, the world of Bach – specifically the crystal-clear logic of the lute suites – serves as a stable foundation: the point from which he takes flight, immersing himself in a myriad of musical influences before arriving in his own unmistakable universe.
When Snétberger takes to the stage, he often carries only a single sheet of paper – a simple sketch that allows Baroque polyphony to meet the freedom of Roma traditions. Yet, beneath these improvisations lies a conscious architecture; on Snétberger’s guitar, melodies aren’t merely played, they are brought to life and woven into a spellbinding narrative. This is virtuosity at its finest, the kind that never seeks to show off, but simply searches for the common denominator in music.
