Ágnes Langer, Gábor Hontvári & Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra

Two outstanding masterpieces of 19th-century Russian Romantic music, Borodin’s Symphony No. 2 in B minor and Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic poem Scheherazade Op. 35 will be performed on this evening. In the latter piece, Concertmaster of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra Ágnes Langer will play the solos. Borodin’s symphony features a completely new sound. In fact, Franz Liszt encouraged Borodin not to change anything in the piece telling him: “Don’t be afraid of originality. Don’t listen to those who try to divert you from your own path. (...) This symphony is completely new. No one has ever done anything like this before.”
