This chamber evening brings together titans of the international concert stage: Yulianna Avdeeva, winner of the 2010 International Chopin Piano Competition, and the Quatuor Modigliani, one of the world’s most sought-after ensembles since their formation in 2003.
Avdeeva’s playing is a rare fusion of technical bravura and profound intellectual insight; she is as comfortable navigating the delicate textures of Ravel’s waltzes as she is mastering the dramatic architecture of large-scale masterpieces. Joining her is the string quartet composed of Amaury Coeytaux, Loïc Rio, Laurent Marfaing, and François Kieffer. As worthy heirs to the French tradition, the Quatuor Modigliani is defined by an extraordinary elegance and a lush, yet transparent sound – qualities that will shine brilliantly in Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor.
To close the evening, the musicians join forces for Shostakovich’s five-movement Piano Quintet, a work of symphonic ambition and immense emotional depth.
