There’s no place like home. We might enjoy the flavours of international cuisines, but nothing beats the taste of home cooking. It is much the same with music: our hearts skip a beat and we get goosebumps the moment a double bass begins to hum, a viola starts its rhythmic stomp, a violin weaves intricate patterns above, and a cimbalom provides its deep, resonant wash – all seasoned by the voice of a folk singer.
The Song-Cooking Festival naturally makes a place for folk music: where it came from, where it is going, what it consists of, and what can be added to it. What exactly are the sounds and pulses that trigger such a reaction in us? Is the secret hidden within the scale of ancient Hungarian melodies? And what happens when we pair these tunes with modern musical accompaniment? Or conversely: what if we dress other genres in folklore robes?
The ensemble Góbé – led by Máté Vizeli, who is also well-versed in classical music, and the multi-instrumentalist Mátyás Egervári – promises a folk-world music “cook-off”, wandering between genres with great taste and even greater spirit.
