Martim Almeida (piano)
Portuguese pianist Martim Almeida pays tribute to the memory of the renowned Brazilian pianist Luiz de Moura Castro, who passed away last year. An exceptional performer and pedagogue, Moura Castro maintained a close relationship with the Liszt Academy throughout his career, having once studied here himself under the guidance of Mihály Bächer.
As a former student of Moura Castro, Martim Almeida has curated a programme that reflects both their personal and artistic bond. The evening evokes the rich legacy of the Brazilian master, featuring works by Ferenc Liszt and his student José Vianna da Motta, alongside compositions by Portuguese and South American composers. The repertoire is further enriched by a significant work from Liszt’s contemporary, César Franck. This selection serves as a musical portrait of Moura Castro’s international career and cultural roots, illustrating the intellectual bridge that connects the musical traditions of Europe and the Americas.
Born in Coimbra, Almeida continued his studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music and is currently a Master’s student at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.
The concert is realized through the collaboration of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, the Embassy of Portugal, and the Camões Institute.
