Zoltán Fejérvári (piano)
Zoltán Fejérvári is an internationally acclaimed pianist whose playing combines a unique internal architecture with a sweeping musicality – qualities that have consistently drawn superlatives from critics worldwide. It is hard to say whether the domestic renaissance of Leoš Janáček began with Fejérvári’s 2019 album or if the record was simply perfectly timed; either way, he has provided an indelible and authentic interpretation of the Czech Romantic’s programmatic piano works. From this repertoire, he performs the first volume of the cycle On an Overgrown Path.
Fejérvári made a similarly profound impact on the Schumann discography with his 2020 release featuring the Waldszenen, Nachtstücke, and Humoreske. This evening, he brings us the miniature character pieces of the Kinderszenen, works which, despite their title, evoke a distinctly adult sense of nostalgia.
The programme is rounded off with selections from the Games series by György Kurtág – celebrating his 100th birthday this year – and Brahms’s first published work, the grandiose Piano Sonata in C major.
