On 28 October 1853, Robert Schumann published an article in the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik about a twenty-year-old composer just beginning to find his wings: “I thought that someone would suddenly appear destined to give an ideal presentation to the highest expression of the time... And he has come, a young blood by whose cradle graces and heroes kept watch”. That rising talent was Johannes Brahms, who, as the elder composer’s spiritual heir, would more than fulfill the expectations placed upon him.
The nurturing of such talent is also a core mission of the Altalena community. This organization brings outstanding musicians to the world’s most significant concert halls while focusing on the comprehensive artistic and personal development of young performers. In this Solti Hall concert, four members of the collective offer an insight into their shared musical vision through chamber works by these two giants of Romanticism, spanning nearly half a century of musical history.
