Liszt Academy Chamber Orchestra
Conductor: Péter Kováts
The Liszt Academy’s tradition of elite instrumental training places significant emphasis on orchestral studies, starting with a foundational year of string chamber orchestra for first-year students. This specialized program allows young musicians to master the intricacies of ensemble playing through the study of string repertoire across various eras. The learning process is truly holistic: rehearsals are supported by music theory analysis and music history lectures provided by the faculty of the Music Theory Department.
This comprehensive educational journey culminates in a public concert where students demonstrate their mastery on stage. The repertoire, spanning multiple historical styles, presents both a formidable professional challenge for the musicians and a rich, rewarding experience for the audience.
The ensemble is led by Péter Kováts, a Bartók–Pásztory Prize-winning violinist and professor at the university. Drawing on decades of leadership experience as the artistic director of the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, he guides these young talents through the complexities of professional orchestral performance.
