Song-Cooking Matinee for Ages 10–15

Signature pulses, cymbal brushes, and catchy melodies from the world of jazz

Jazz Kitchen Fairy: Júlia Karosi
Featuring: Júlia Karosi Quartet (Júlia Karosi – vocals, Krisztián Oláh – piano, Ádám Bögöthy – double bass, Bendegúz Varga – drums)
Narrator: Dániel Mona

The closing matinee of the Song-Cooking Festival promises to be a true celebration of spontaneous music-making. A favorite guest of the Liszt Kidz’ Academy, singer Júlia Karosi, returns with her quartet to reveal the secrets of jazz through both words and music.

Together, we’ll examine this musical tree from its roots to its blossoms. Which instruments make up a typical jazz ensemble, and why? Does the “spirit” of jazz hide in the swish of a cymbal brush? Is it found in the rhythmic “shoo-be-doo” of a vocal solo, or perhaps in the steady pluck of the double bass? What happens to a jazz melody if we swap the pulse underneath it? How much does the singer’s unique tone and character change the flavor of the piece?

Narrator Dániel Mona will once again take the music apart, mix it up, and serve it with various musical “side dishes”. Providing the perfect ingredients for this experimentation is the Júlia Karosi Quartet; since several members are composers themselves, they are masters at playing with musical structures in every sense. In fact, they won’t even break a sweat if the audience decides to dictate the recipe!
