Please allow me that, apart from my regrettable ignorance of the Hungarian language, I remain Magyar in my heart and soul from birth to the grave. As a consequence, I earnestly wish to further the progress of Hungarian music.

Ditta Rohmann (cello)

When we talk about Bach’s cello suites in this country, the name Ditta Rohmann may well come to mind first. She is not only a virtuoso cellist, but also a passionate advocate of musical experimentation. She is committed to tradition, but is also constantly looking for ways to innovate. Having played the piano and sung as a child, she admits that she feels first and foremost a musician and secondly a cellist. In addition to her solo career, she performs regularly with world music ensembles, with dancers and in chamber music formations. Her talent has been recognised by numerous awards, including success at the Leipzig Bach Competition, the Junior Prima Prize as well as CD and radio recordings. Besides classical music, she is also open to contemporary and folk music. In addition to Bach, her programme includes works by 20th and 21st century masters such as the British Benjamin Britten and the American George Crumb.
