Dezső Ránki graduated from the Liszt Academy in 1973. At the age of 18 he won first prize at the Zwickau International Schumann Competition, since when he has given concerts worldwide. He has played with the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Concertgebouw orchestra of Amsterdam, and the Parisian Orchestre National, partnered famous conductors such as György Solti, Sándor Végh, Lorin Maazel, and Zubin Mehta. Since 1985 he has regularly given piano duet concerts with his wife Edit Klukon, including appearances in Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, New York, and London. He has twice been awarded the Kossuth Prize (1978 and 2008), the Liszt Prize (1973), Meritorious Artist (1984) and Artist of Excellence (1990), and Prima Primissima Prize (2005). In 2006, he was presented with the Hungarian Order of Merit Commander’s Cross with Star, and he has been an honorary citizen of Budapest since 2014.
