Kamara•hu Festival - Frida Kahlo

Once again, Kamara.hu centers on the figure of a legendary artist. The festival organized by the pianist couple Izabella Simon and Dénes Várjon has always been rich in historical, biographical, and interdisciplinary associations; the life and art of the Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo’s life and art are at once dramatic yet beautiful, profound yet colorful—the perfect “raw material” for a chamber music festival. The 2026 concerts not only pay tribute to Mexican and Spanish culture, but also showcase some of the painter’s contemporaries, depict numerous exciting or even painful female destinies, and allude to Frida Kahlo’s stormy love affair with Diego Rivera and her relationship with Lev Trotsky. The works also radiate Frida’s longing for freedom, her courage, and her personal grief. Dark colors, surrealist moods, and varied depictions of tension—this is what the Kamara.hu Festival, perhaps the richest in contrasts of all time, has to offer.

The artistic directors are dedicating this year’s festival to the memory of Imre Földes, the recently deceased, beloved, and respected professor at Liszt Academy.
