The Liszt Academy celebrated its 145th birthday in November 2020. Since its foundation in November 1875, it has been the bastion of music teaching in Hungary. Even from a distance of nearly one and a half centuries, the person of the founder, Ferenc Liszt, still defines the mission of the institution. His compositional and performance career of unparalleled significance in music history represents an inheritance that still feeds music teaching activities at the Liszt Academy to this day, and which serves as a yardstick for the very highest professional quality. Students playing in the Liszt Academy Symphony Orchestra also strive to attain this standard. At this festive event delayed due to the pandemic they perform the concerto by Bartók, who was tied to the Liszt Academy with unbreakable bonds, as well as Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s orchestral suite under the conductorship of Gilbert Varga, the world-class artist of Hungarian ancestry. Soloist of the piano concerto is Ádám Balogh, who took second place in the piano category of the Bartók World Competition.
