Philharmonia Hungary organize the long-established Liszt Ferenc International Piano Competition in Budapest between 12-19 September 2021. Candidates can display their skills in front of a distinguished international jury in one of the most significant venues in Hungarian music life. The jury comprises such foreign world stars as Olga Kern (Russia), Wu Ying (China), Boaz Sharon (USA), Olli Mustonen (Finland), Cyprien Katsaris (France), while Hungary is represented by three exceptional artists, János Balázs, Gábor Farkas and Tamás Vásáry. Iconic works from the Liszt oeuvre provide the core of the competition repertoire, but the programme also includes arrangements, among them the composition (reflecting the Liszt work) by György Cziffra, who was born 100 years ago. A new feature is that material for the qualifiers also includes Bach and Haydn works, essential for an understanding of style of European musical culture. Prizewinning competitors receive not only opportunities to appear on stage but also monetary rewards, with the first prize being worth €30,000.
