Please allow me that, apart from my regrettable ignorance of the Hungarian language, I remain Magyar in my heart and soul from birth to the grave. As a consequence, I earnestly wish to further the progress of Hungarian music.

Conversation on Literature and Music

Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 27 in E minor, Op. 90
Jonathan Biss (piano)

Host: Izabella Simon & Dénes Várjon
Guest: Péter Nádas

The discussion forum ‘Between the Three of Us’ is an indispensable programme at kamara.hu. It is the chance for Izabella Simon and Dénes Várjon to talk with a celebrity from the world of literature, theatre or film about their relationship to music and literature, the frontiers of art, creative processes and musical memories. Indispensable because literature is an integral part of the festival’s concerts and it is important that this co-artistic relationship unfolds not only within the sounds of music. In the wake of such illustrious guests as György Spiró, Anna Szabó T., György Dragomán, Ildikó Boldizsár, Ildikó Enyedi, Wilhelm Droste, Pál Mácsai, and Pál Závada, this year the artistic directors are hosting a guest who only rarely gives interviews. True, this is not actually an interview. Kossuth Prize winner Péter Nádas shares his thoughts with the kamara.hu audience in the framework of an informal chat. As usual, the conversation is complemented with music: Beethoven’s sonata may be brief but it is infinitely exciting since it marks a moment of equilibrium between the two timelines intersecting the composer’s life, the border between the Classical and the Romantic periods.
