Lucas Jussen, Arthur Jussen (piano)

Brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen from Hilversum, the Netherlands, are highly sought-after pianists and their youthful, relaxed approach is a welcome patch of colour on the classical music scene. They have held an exclusive contract with Deutsche Gramophon since 2010; the recording company released their seventh album last year. According to Sir Neville Marriner, the special impact of the Jussens lies in the fact that not only do two great pianists appear on stage at the same time, but it is as if the artists read each other’s thoughts since they immediately react to even the smallest individual elements of interpretation. Their Budapest concert opens with Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos in D major (K. 448), which combines aesthetic qualities with positive health impacts because, according to scientific research published recently, the work has been proven to have beneficial effects on the human nervous system. Schubert's romantically stormy four-hand piece is followed by Ravel’s sweetly plaintive, nostalgic choreographic poem for orchestra, and finally Stravinsky’s astoundingly powerful ballet music.
