...a country (Hungary) whose population, even today, is barely over ten million has produced so many musicians and so much outstanding music. I am grateful for having been born and trained there.

Bartók World Competition - Violin 2023 / Preliminary 1 Presented by Liszt Academy

After 2017 again, violinists compete in this year’s international competition. Launched in 2017, the event is held in six-year cycles. In odd-numbered years, instrumentalists compete: firstly violinists, then pianists and finally string quartets. In the intervening even years, a composers' competition is held, always with works corresponding to the instrumental round of the following year, where some award-winning compositions are included in the repertoire. Although the Bartók World Competition is only starting its second this year, and has not yet been running for several decades, it is already one of the most prestigious competitions in the world. Hundreds of entries are received for each call, and every year the audience and jury encounter with world-class performances—not only in the final but also during preliminaries, thanks to the pre-selection.

The list of contestants in the 1st preliminary:

Zhang Xunyue (33)

Bonaita, Francesca (1)

Christensen, Jacobo (3)

Devutskaia, Sofia (4)

Druțac, Dan-Iulian(5)

Haniková, Miriam Magdalena(6)

Karatas, Yigit (7)
