Béla Bartók was admitted to the Liszt Academy in 1899, where he was a student of István Thomán for piano and János Koessler for composition until 1903. As the successor of Thomán, he taught at his former alma mater from 1907 and teaching piano at the Liszt Academy remained his main position and constant occupation until his transfer to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1934. Bartók performed on numerous occasions in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy, and several of his works were premiered publicly within these walls for the first time. The program of the concert commemorating the 143rd anniversary of his birth, presents a cross-section of his chamber music work: a sonata and a string quartet from the 1920s, as well as a specially composed trio from the late 1930s. In addition, the concert will feature lesser-known instrumental works from the early period of his colleague and friend, Zoltán Kodály.
