The 12 September (Tuesday) round will be live streamed on the competition website from 2 pm.

On 9 September 2017, 44 contestants arrived in Budapest for the Bartók World Competition and Festival. In accordance with the official drawing lots, the Preliminary round started with Competitor No. 47, Japanese Tategami Mai. Already on the opening day of the event series organised by the Liszt Academy, a wide range of extraordinary musical and historical treats awaited the audience.

The rounds of the contest organized between 10-17 September at Liszt Academy, will begin from No. 47.

„As the Alma Mater of Béla Bartók, it is the mission of the Liszt Academy to care for his oeuvre of great international significance.” –pointed out the founder and initiator of the Competition, the President of the Liszt Academy, Dr Andrea Vigh, at the press conference prior to the event on 7 September, 2017.

„We can serve a cause in many ways as long as we strive for perfection in it.”- was the first sentence of the 2017-2018 Academic Year opening speech held by the President of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Dr Andrea Vigh on 4 September.

The President of the Liszt Academy gave an account about the maintenance of Bartók’s legacy as well as of the procedure and special events of the Bartók World Competition & Festival in the evening show of the Hungarian Public Service Television.

On the national holiday of Hungary, prestigious state awards were conferred upon two members of the academic staff of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music as well as upon the pianist Tamás Vásáry.
