To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Zoltán Kodály’s death, on 5 March, Kodály’s favourite room at the Liszt Academy was officially inaugurated receiving the composer’s name. Hungary’s Secretary of State for Culture, Dr Péter Hoppál, the President of the Liszt Academy, Dr Andrea Vigh and the curator of the exhibition and professor of the Liszt Academy András Batta delivered their addresses at the inauguration ceremony and related exhibition opening.

This is to kindly inform you that the On the Spot subscription concert to be given by the Alma Mater Choir in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy originally scheduled for 7:30pm on 2 March, 2017 is postponed to 7:30pm on 28 March, 2017.

The Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy had the honour to host the gala concert and award ceremony of the Cziffra Festival on 26 February, 2017.

One of the greatest „Evangelists” of our time, Christoph Prégardien will take to the stage of the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy alongside the Ábrahám Consort and the New Liszt Ferenc Chamber Choir on 12 April.

Bartók works have inspired plenty of jazz musicians over the past 70 years. Jazz pianist Dániel Szabó, lecturer at the school of music of the University of California, Los Angeles, contributed an article to Concert Magazine on what it is about the magic of his music that is so inspiring for jazz.

The Liszt-prize winning choral conductor, music teacher and a former lead teacher of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Mária Katanics died on 23 January, 2017, at the age of 88. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, 9 February at 2:30pm in the Makovecz Hall of the Farkasrét Cemetery.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of an excellent former academic of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Erzsébet Hegyi, who passed away on 24 January.

There was a time when it appeared that the music of Ernő Dohnányi would be forever banished from the living music memory and the concert hall. Happily, this did not come to pass, thanks in part to the efforts of Ilona Prunyi who is giving a concert with Miklós Perényi and Ádám Banda on the 3th February.

The ten students receiving the scholarship of The Bank of China, sponsor of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, were handed over their grant certificates in the Grand Hall at the Award Gala on 21 January.
