The Liszt Academy has launched the Bartók World Competition and Festival as the closing chord of the 2016 Bartók Year. The competition debuts with the violin category in September 2017. Violinists under the age of 30 can submit applications with a deadline of 26 March 2017.

The Kossuth Prize-winning Eminent Artist, three-times Erkel Prize- and Béla Bartók-Ditta Pásztory prize winning composer, Kamilló Lendvay passed away just four weeks before his 88th birthday.

The Liszt Academy is proud to launch the Bartók World Competition & Festival on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the birth of Béla Bartók.

The condolers could pay their last respects to the great musician, Zoltán Kocsis until noon on Saturday, 19 November by placing a white flower around his catafalque set up in the entrance hall of the Liszt Academy. From 1pm, state officials and the invited, major representatives of the Hungarian music scene could say goodbye to the highly regarded pianist and conductor, who passed away on 6 November.

We kindly inform our audience and visitors, that the recently passed away Zoltán Kocsis will be bidden last farewell to in the Main Building of the Liszt Academy on Liszt Ferenc Square on Saturday, 19 November. The general public will have the opportunty to pay their last respects by placing a flower before the coffin between 8am and 12pm. Due to this mourning ceremony, for technical reasons, the events announced for 10am and 10:30am will be taking place the following day. The guided tour of the building at 13:30 is cancelled, and the ticket office will open at 4pm.

Besides the significantly discounted subscription rates (15-25%) for any combination of the concerts of the kamara.hu chamber music festival taking place between 17 and 20 November with Dénes Várjon and Izabella Simon as artistic directors, now also individual tickets have been to be purchased since 10 November.

As of Tuesday evening, also the music loving audience can pay their last respects at the memorial site next to the Liszt Ferenc Square entrance of the Main Building of the Liszt Academy.

On behalf of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Dr. Andrea Vigh, the president of the Liszt Academy bade farewell to Zoltán Kocsis, who, as an artist, was born at the Liszt Academy and remained the academy’s own son right until his death.
