Kálmán Balogh is a living legend. In his hands the cimbalom functions as a universal instrument: if necessary for folk, then again for world music, or perhaps for classical, or even jazz. He launched his career forty years ago; currently he is teaching at the Liszt Academy’s Folk Music Department, and he works with undiminished energy in a variety of ensembles. The ocassion of the jubilee concert was the reason for this interview, arranged in ‘Block F’ (FahÉj CafÉ – Editor) opposite the Folk Music Department.

The renewed corporate identity of the Liszt Academy has been deemed as being exemplary and was awarded a certificate of merit by the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office and the Hungarian Design Council.

Classically trained artist Leszek Możdżer, a leading light of the middle generation of Polish jazz, performs solo in the Liszt Academy. He spoke to the Concert Magazine about the situation of Polish and European jazz, his music influences and the future of the genre.

The 40-second spot Lisztery summing up the ars poetica of the concert centre of the Liszt Academy (currently celebrating its 140th anniversary) has won the music conservatory a second Red Dot Design Award.

Four teachers from the Liszt Academy as well as several of its present and past students have been bestowed state honours.

During autumn 2015, the Career Office of the Liszt Academy is organizing seven concerts by young talented musicians on the stage of the Sir Georg Solti Chamber Hall and in the Chamber Hall of the Old Academy of Music.

The gifted pianist, who is supported by the Career Office of the Liszt Academy, won second prize at the 20th International Carl Filtsch Piano Competition.
