Closer to Bartók

More than 100 artists had registered for the competition bearing the name of the universally acknowledged Hungarian composer. This first competition – launching in a month’s time - is open to violinists. Of the entrants, more than 50 received the opportunity to perform live in front of a jury.

In the category ’Instrumentalist’, the trumpeter Gábor Boldoczki, member of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music academic staff was acknowledged with the highly prestigious award for his label Oriental Trumpet Concertos.

Special venue hosting Dohnányi’s 140th birthday celebration

On 23 June, the Dohnányi’s villa and garden – now privately owned- opened its gates to host the composer’s 140th birthday celebration. The invitees attended a wreathing ceremony, an out-of-the-ordinary villa and garden tour, and for the first time in the history of the building, a concert in Dohnányi’s study.

Szabolcs Mátyássy’s award-winning opera at the Bartók Plus Opera Festival

Scævola, the work of the young composition graduate of the Liszt Academy, Szabolcs Mátyássy - winner of the opera composition contest of the 2016 Bartók Plus Opera Festival - was performed by Andrea Rost and the opera students of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music directed by András Almási-Tóth at this year’s opera festival at the Miskolc National Theatre on 21 June.

Silver Blade, which is worth gold
