Dóra Pétery a prize winner at John-Cage-Orgel-Stiftung
A student of the Liszt Academy’s Doctoral School received shared first place for her interpretation of modern organ music.
The John-Cage-Orgel-Stiftung, Halberstadt, announced the third master class and competition in September 2014. During the closing competition concert of the meeting arranged for this year's organists (earlier for string quartets, percussionists and accordionists), Dóra Pétery won shared first prize and €1000 for her interpretation of works by Olivier Messiaen and Mauricio Kagel. Members of the jury: Prof. Christoph Bossert (Würzburg), Prof. Hans-Ola Ericsson (Montreal), Prof. Dr. Nicolas Schalz (Bremen), Prof. Dr. Daniela Philippi (Frankfurt), Karin Gastell (Bremen), Johannes Rieger (Halberstadt) and Ute Schalz-Laurenze (Bremen).
The John Cage Foundation was established to perform the American composer's work (1987) transcribed for organ entitled Organ2/ASLSP (As Slow as Possible) lasting for 639 years, and precisely in this German town midway between Leipzig and Hannover because, we believe, the first church organ was built there in 1361. 639 years before the abovementioned Cage work would have started in the 11th century church in 2000, on an organ built pipe by pipe specially for this purpose.
