The Liszt Academy, the organizer of the competition – which will be held in early September with prizes totalling 70,000 euros - welcomes applications until April 25. Contestants will perform Liszt songs again this year.

The application for the Bartók World Competition 2022, which will continue with a contest of composers, is now open. Liszt Academy, the organizer of the event, is inviting applicants to submit works written for violin-piano duets. The prestigious international jury will be chaired by world-renowned American composer John Corigliano.

Ten young talents were awarded the Junior Prima Prize in Music this year and the majority of the winners are current and former students of the Liszt Academy. The jury was chaired by Dr. Andrea Vigh, President of the university, and renowned faculty members sat on the panel.

A new publication – complete with a DVD - featuring unknown versions of Franz Liszt's works was presented at the Old Academy of Music on November 13. At the event, Alajos Landau's 1873 charcoal drawing of Liszt, purchased by the Liszt Museum Foundation in Vienna, was also unveiled.

The members of the string quartets that won the top three prizes - including the Hungarian musicians of the Vienna-based Chaos String Quartet - unanimously praised the professional organization of the competition, and all of them feel that Bartók's music has opened up new vistas for them.

The Quartet Integra was awarded the first prize totalling 12,000 euros at Sunday’s awards ceremony and gala evening of the 2021 Bartók World Competition for string quartets.
