Every year the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, as organizer of the Opera Exam Festival, prepares for this international meeting with one of its own productions. This year’s music theatre project is managed by theatre director László Keszég, and once again we can see and hear students of the opera department of the Liszt Academy. In 2019 it is the turn of the world-famous Bizet opera Carmen to be staged. Of course, we can expect to come across another truly remarkable performance to chamber music accompaniment. British composer Stephen McNeff, who is also famous as a contemporary opera author, reorchestrated the work at the request of Mid Wales Opera in 2014. Bizet often employed an orchestra to evoke a Spanish ambience, and this chamber orchestra version remains true to this concept.
