J(i). S. Bach: Goldberg Variations Presented by Liszt Academy

Ji-Yong Kim, as a true 21st-century performance artist, has excited significant international interest with his totally new and unique approach to classical music. The South Korean pianist completed his studies at the Juilliard School of Music. He was just ten when he won the competition for young artists announced by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, becoming the youngest ever to do so, and in 2012 he came out winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Millions of TV viewers saw the remarkable broadcast in 2016 when he played Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata on a traditional piano and a special ‘monotune’ piano in which each string was tuned to the same note. His recording of Bach’s monumental Goldberg Variations was released in January 2018. “It gave me, a person who has lived barely twenty-something years, the most important lesson: to feel and decode things that go beyond the notes.”
