Gergely Kovács & Orion Trio Presented by Liszt Academy

Young musicians take to the stage of Liszt Academy’s Solti Hall as part of the Talent Obliges series. In the first half of the concert, 25-year-old Junior Prima laureate Gergely Kovács plays piano pieces. Both compositions are associated with early 20th century music life and composers of Russian background. Stravinsky’s legendary ballet, Petrushka premièred in Paris in 1911. At this recital, the audience has the opportunity of hearing three movements from this work. The composer himself created a spectacular piano arrangement from Petrushka, which he dedicated to the great pianist Arthur Rubinstein. Rachmaninov’s famous set of preludes was also composed in 2010. Although pieces of it are often played in concerts, it is a rare event to hear the entire cycle performed in one evening. After the intermission the programme continues in chamber recital format: Orion trio, the ensemble of Gergely Kovács, play the Piano Trio in C major (1882) by Brahms.
