Artistic director and performer: István Várdai (cello)
At the beginning of the year, one of the sensations of the music profession was the news that István Várdai had been appointed new artistic director of Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra. This concert is the first opportunity for the world-famous cellist to play in front of a Budapest audience with ‘his’ ensemble. This is what he said of their combined efforts: “It is necessary to work with the composer’s creativity, as though one had just then discovered the composition, one has to imagine oneself in the creative process, and this is extraordinarily refreshing. It is important that we show elegance, the diversity of the formation; this gives new inspiration to the ensemble. We are trying to get the audience to perceive the energy inherent in works, as well as the conviction and the will with which Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra interpret the message of composers.”
