Zsófia Tallér, who died this year tragically early after enduring a long illness, was a highly influential figure in Hungarian music and music education. The concert gives us a comprehensive picture of the composer’s oeuvre and her career as a teacher. It includes her most significant pieces written for solo instruments, her chamber works, her songs written to verses by Hungarian poets, and an excerpt from her Artisjus Prize winning Pert Em Heru oratorio. Iconic arias from her most important operas are performed, for example, excerpts of Johanna performed at the Cannes festival, and Leánder és Lenszirom which was, uniquely, kept on the programme of the Budapest Opera for three seasons. The composer considered it extremely important to write for youth, thus this concert includes a song cycle written for children’s choir, and piano pieces written for the fairy tales Kipp-Kopp and Tipp-topp by Veronika Marék. Works are interspersed with short prose excerpts: prominent actors interpret the composer’s thoughts on music, musical dramaturgy and teaching.
