Two bygone eras in a single recital… The kamara.hu Grand Hall concert that is on the trail of lost time is, from several angles, remarkable and unconventional. On the one hand, this is an orchestral concert despite the chamber music character of the festival. Of course, one could ask the completely reasonable question: isn’t the dialogue between a soloist and orchestra the same playing of chamber music as a string quartet’s? On the other hand, the recital is in memory of the world-famous pianist Géza Anda, who was born exactly 100 years ago on the eve of this concert, thereby continuing the series of earlier Géza Anda festivals realized under the artistic direction of Dénes Várjon. The performers pay tribute to Anda, who from being a virtuoso became a Mozart specialist and recorded all of the composer’s piano concertos, with four Mozart concertos. Aside from the two artistic directors, solos are also played by Jonathan Biss, Alina Ibragimova and Anton Gerzenberg, winner of this year’s Géza Anda International Piano Competition. The concert concludes with the double piano concerto that first sparked Anda’s lifelong love for the music of Mozart; at the time he partnered Clara Haskil on the piano.
