Hans-Ola Ericsson Presented by Liszt Academy

Johann Sebastian Bach and modern Scandinavian organ music sit right at the heart of this concert by Hans-Ola Ericsson. The Swedish artist is a world-class performer of the modern organ repertoire. This, and his roles in teaching and as a specialist of the instrument, mean he is a regular guest of the leading music institutions of the world. The lavish sound and amazing use of harmonies apparent in Sibelius’s Intrada have made it an outstanding work of Finnish organ music. In Interaction No. 2, Tamás Ungvári – who works in Sweden – creates brilliantly executed rhythmic play with the help of electronics. In the wake of the work by the recently deceased Sven-David Sandström, Ericsson performs an own composition. Melody to the Memory of a Lost Friend is a music vision of loss, inspired not only by personal tragedy but the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. The programme enhanced with Bach arrangements closes with the final masterpiece from Dane Carl Nielsen, Commotio (Op. 58).
