With its captivating performance style and insatiable musical adventurousness, Brooklyn Rider has occupied a unique place among string quartets over its fifteen-year history. They find inspiration in Beethoven works from his late period, Persian classical music, music with American roots, and contemporary composers alike. In their latest project, they have put together an innovative program permeated by the symbols of the four elements. The concept of earth, air, fire, and water, as the basis of the physical world, appeared in ancient cultures in Greece, Egypt, Persia, Babylon, and India. The string quartet’s unique musical ecosystem is a balance of the four equal and living elements, which jointly express the beauties and mysteries of our world, as well as the destructive forces that pose the greatest challenges of our time.
