Following his nineteenth birthday, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed five violin concertos within the span of twelve months. In his Violin Concerto No. 4 in D major, the solo instrument is assigned a prominent role compared to his earlier concert works. The solo part is characterized by melodiousness, smoothly consistent melodic arcs, and balanced rhythm. The solo will be performed by Lili Júlia Kovács, a second-year student of the Bartók Conservatoire at the institution’s summer season-closing concert. The Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music’s Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music has announced a composition contest for its students specializing in composition, with the aim of having the winning piece performed in an orchestral arrangement. This year’s competition winner was Zsigmond Kóta with his composition Litania. Finally, the evening will close with one of the most famous rhythmic and melodic motifs in music history, which was premiered almost a century ago, in 1928, at the Paris Opera.
