Bruno de Sá (male soprano)
Wrocław Baroque Orchestra
Artistic director and performing on cello: Jarosław Thiel

A male soprano is a male singer who can (also) sing in the soprano range. Nowadays, this is typically achieved using falsetto or head voice techniques. However, several centuries ago, much more radical methods were employed. Unsurprisingly, most compositions written for male sopranos were created during the 18th century when castrati were commonly featured on the opera stage. This type of singer did not completely disappear in the following century, with their involvement in the Catholic Church traceable until the late 1800s. Bruno de Sá, a celebrated male soprano of our time, will perform a concert featuring both well-known and lesser-known repertoire from the last great era of castrati singers, the second half of the 18th century. He will be accompanied by Poland’s leading historical orchestra, the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, founded in 2006.
