Conductor: Maxim Rysanov
The names of Mussorgsky and Ravel have become closely associated through the orchestral version of Pictures at an Exhibition, as, although thousands of kilometers and several decades separated them, their elegance and expressiveness make it not an exaggeration to consider them distant relatives. Between the magical soundscapes of Ma mère l’oye and Mussorgsky’s stirring, dynamic tableaux, Ravel’s ‘two-handed’ piano concerto will also be performed, interpreted by one of the composer’s most unique and respected performers, Dezső Ránki, a two-time Kossuth Prize and Liszt Ferenc Prize awardee. The concert, to be held on Ravel’s one-hundred-fiftieth birthday, will also feature the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maxim Rysanov, a violist known for his increasing appearances with the conductor’s baton.
