The 150th anniversary of the founding of the Liszt Academy is a perfect opportunity to explore the intersection of the institution’s history and Hungarian music history. The Hidden Treasures of the Liszt Academy thematic series offers a chance for reflection and rediscovery. The concerts, curated by Balázs Fülei, Head of the Chamber Music Department, feature works by former professors of composition and orchestration at the university. The program includes compositions that are rarely, if ever, heard in concert programs. In the fourth concert of the series, chamber works by Erkel and Koessler, both among the first professors at the Liszt Academy, will be performed. Koessler was a pioneering master whose students’ legacy includes works by Dezső Antalffy-Zsiross, Rezső Sugár, and, from the second half of the twentieth century, Sándor Balassa and Balázs Szunyogh.
