With this large-scale concert, Concerto Budapest and their exceptionally talented guests offer a glimpse into the world of concertos for one or more percussion instruments with some of the genre’s most compelling works.
The Polish Marianna Bednarska takes the stage as a soloist for the former rock musician Anders Koppel’s Marimba Concerto. The concert's most monumental, loudest and most spectacular piece will be Glass’ concerto: a dozen timpanis will be placed in the foreground of the stage.
French composer, educator and percussionist Emmanuel Séjourné will take part in the performance of his own composition. The double concerto written from the songs of jazz guitarist and composer Pat Metheny was premiered in 2017, with She-e Wu playing the marimba solo. The artist, who is also very active as a composer and educator, will now join forces with Séjourné to perform the piece.
