The three hundred and fortieth is undoubtedly not one of those particularly round anniversaries, but in the case of Johann Sebastian Bach, such and other anniversaries naturally provide a wonderfully convenient extra occasion. For example, they bring together great musicians to perform Bach’s music, suites, concertos, and fugues arranged by Mozart, just like at this concert. With the Norwegian violinist-conductor Arvid Engegård, who joyfully returns to Concerto Budapest, the evening will feature soloists such as the magnificent flutist Orsolya Kaczander, and Dénes Várjon, who will perform as the soloist in the D-major keyboard concerto, catalog number 1054. And of course, alongside his fellow musicians, Dénes Várjon will take center stage in the performance of the Fifth Brandenburg Concerto, one of the two Brandenburg concertos featured in the program. This composition is often identified, not without reason, as one of the starting points and first masterpieces of the piano concerto genre – even though the iconic Bach piece was originally written for harpsichord.
