Founded in 2012, Duo Sera is a unique formation that played the first-ever saxophone and harp composition at their debut concert. Since the original repertoire for this instrument pairing is limited, their performances often feature numerous arrangements and new works. On this evening, they will perform Decruck’s Sonata in C-sharp minor in an arrangement by Jean-Pierre Ballon. The Szigeti Quartet, formed in 2017, consists of excellent musicians from Hungary’s leading orchestras. Their performance will include Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, composed in 1893.
The concert program also features Adolf Busch’s 1925 Saxophone Quintet for alto saxophone, two violins, viola, and cello. The work remained undiscovered for many years and was only rediscovered decades later in the United States. Additionally, Caplet’s Conte fantastique, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s short story The Masque of the Red Death, will also be performed. This varied concert program will showcase both the unique duo formation of Duo Sera and the classical string quartet setup of the Szigeti Quartet, performing both separately and together.
