MÁV Symphony Orchestra

The guest appearance of two exceptional young Russian musicians transforms this concert into a special event. Kirill Troussov is a familiar face for audiences of MÁV Symphony concerts. Born in St. Petersburg, he was a soloist at orchestral concerts from the age of eight. He moved to Germany with his family, where he completed his studies, since when he has been a globe-trotting concert star piling one triumph on top of another. Valentin Uryupin was born in the Ukraine in 1985, he started his musical career as a clarinettist but his talent as a conductor also became apparent at an early age. He was successful at several international competitions and in 2017 he won the Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in Frankfurt. Sibelius’s famous Violin Concerto is played in the characteristic language of the great Finnish composer: it is imbued with the soul of the Finns living in the rugged northern landscape and forced into a constant battle with nature, the mysterious, melancholic atmosphere of the legends of old. Shostakovich’s tenth symphony debuted in December 1953, after the death of Stalin; it was the composer’s first symphonic work after a hiatus of five years and it is full of secretive allusions and cryptic signs typical of the man.
