Third Coast Percussion, the Chicago-based, Grammy Award-winning quartet has been giving concerts for fifteen years. With novel, captivating and surprising performances, they keep pushing the boundaries of the concert’s traditional form. Their playing has been repeatedly praised for its combination of accuracy and elegance, their performance mode for its keen energy, and their approach for its inquisitiveness.
Keeping a very busy concert schedule, the quartet has performed in 33 states of the US, and on four continents. They have commissioned and premiered over 60 works, by composers like Philip Glass, Augusta Read Thomas, David T. Little and Devonté Hynes. The programme of their Budapest concert offers a representative overview of their work.
The featured guest of the evening, Michael Burritt is a world-famous soloist and composer, who has written three concertos, several chamber and solo pieces. His works for marimba are part of the instrument’s core repertoire. Along with Third Coast Percussion, he regularly appears in concert with such ensembles as Nexus, Ju Percussion Group and Amores Percussion Group.
