Wrocław Baroque Ensemble

Let’s be honest, most of us don’t know much about pre-Chopin Polish music and the reason for this is not only the strange characters that appear in the names of composers. That said, as early as during the Renaissance, in 16-17th centuries, the arts flourished in the court of the Vasa rulers, and later on high-quality musical life, which also influenced Western European music, thrived in the Polish-Lithuanian Union until 1795. Conductor Andrzej Kosendiak founded Wrocław Baroque Ensemble, playing on period instruments, in 2006 specifically for the purpose of rediscovering and performing this diverse but forgotten Polish repertoire. The programme, which offers a rare insight, allows the audience to marvel at the music written and played in this region at the time of Palestrina, Monteverdi and Schütz. It is up to us to decide whether or not these compositions should have been consigned to oblivion. What can be foreseen is that having heard this world-famous Polish ensemble, we’ll not be able to answer in the affirmative.
